Uruz Rune

Uruz, or Ur, Yr, or Urus (Gothic) is the second letter in the futhark. It is named after the extinct animal Auroch, the animal cattles descend upon. In some languages, it means drizzle, or rain, or snowfall. Generally it has meant bad whether. Some it's just cold rainclouds. I has also meant the sea and the waves. There are four poems that talk about the drizzle in this particular rune. Norwegian, Icelandic, and Swedish. They all seem to be of a recent find as of 2024.

Since the name has derived from an extinct ox, Uruz has been associated with primal strength and nature. The Auroch itself has been excessively hunted to extinction. Whether for sport, for a prize, or maybe for a form of coming to age where boys became men. Kind of fitting for primal nature. It's an animal that provided food, which satiates the primal nature of hunger. It has been an animal that's been hunted for prize, which satiates the primal desire for glory. Maybe it's to defend one's territory and the Auroch charges upon them and they had to defend themselves, that could be satiating their primal fears and comforting them.

When it comes to strength, aurochs for sure must have been very strong. Modern cattles are no pushovers and they descend from aurochs. Which is why it has been associated as such. The uruz rune when facing up encourages such. Strength is more than just physical fitness and how well one can fight. It can mean strength of courage, a strong health, a strong mind, and a strong heart. Strength both literal and metaphorically. Depending on how it's used and placed. It could tell you to overcome your primal desires, perhaps the desire to overcome desire itself. One could do alot when one overcomes it and gains the so-called discipline.

When the rune faces down. Perhaps the warning of weakness or maybe weakness consumed you in the past or present. If it happened in the past, perhaps you could figure out your weakspots and strengthen them. Same in the present and the future. Maybe your primal desires got the best of you and you have indulged in pleasure. When building strength, you don't start with the heaviest weight, you start light and build up. Perhaps you can build up discipline overtime. Eat too much? Instead of starving to death, why not cut back food slowly, they suggest 1/4 of your portions should be cut if you want to eat less.

Since most sites that talk about runes don't mention the rain, I don't blame them since it is quite a recent discovery. I will put you my interpretations of what it could mean in that particular context. If it's facing up, perhaps clear whether or maybe you have a clear vision. Maybe your mood is brighter since the clouds of your past have cleared. Spring has arrived now that there no longer is snowfall. Maybe combining with the meaning of strength, used it to clear a path for yourself or for your future.

If the rune is facing down, maybe it could mean bad whether. Maybe you're confused, depressed, or generally sad. Or maybe your bad mood has gotten worse, the rain turned into a thunderstorm. The snowfall could indicate the start of a very long winter, a winter that is cold and brutal. Maybe an uncertain future. Maybe combined with strength, the cloudiness and weakness only amplifies the problem.
