Fehu Rune

Fehu, in old english, Feoh. It also means Fé in old Norse. It is the first rune in the runic alphabet. It means livestock and it has likely derived from loose wealth. It has been used in poems in three different germanic languages. The Old Norwegian, Icelandic, and Anglo-Saxon language. It talks about how wealth can cause strifes and conflicts and some states that it must be given freely to gain honour, in the Anglo-Saxon poem, it most likely meant the Jesus Christ, but it's possible it may have derived from the pagan gods such as Odin or Thor. Perhaps Njörðr considering that he is the god of wealth, and perhaps his children Freyja and Freyr. The poem itself is even featured in Antediluvian Wisdom's debut album, The Wizard's Soliloquy.

Some suggests the meaning of Fehu means growth, new beginnings, wealth, prosperity, and abundance. There is a comparising to wealth and livestock. The rune itself does resemble slightly to cattle horns and cattle was extremely valueble back in the day. The people who uses the runes for spiritual or magical use takes this fehu rune and depict its meaning in one of two ways.

If the rune is facing forward, it could mean wealth and prosperity. Depending on where the rune is placed or what you are using it for, it could tell of your past, present, or future. Perhaps it tells you good fortune is coming, whether it falls on your lap or you worked for it. Perhaps the advice would be seek good fortune and do whatever you can to earn or keep that fortune. The wealth and fortune doesn't always mean money, it could be the wealth of happiness, friends, community, or maybe it could tell you to make a rich tapestry of life.

If the rune is facing backwards, it could mean scarcity and imbalance. Perhaps the reverse of the rune facing forward. Perhaps if you recieve it reversed, you could ask, "What happened?", "How did it happen?", and "What can I do to prevent this?" Perhaps if it's in the future, to prepare yourself for hard times. Maybe the future is more of a warning to take a different path if you don't want your wealth to be lost. Or maybe it tells you to stay true to your friends and to make sure your friends are true to you. If it is in the past, maybe it tells you to learn from your mistakes and use that for better oppurtunities and success. Maybe it tells you to not let little things that might have stopped you from getting to you. Perhaps the life force this rune gave wasn't as effective as it once was and maybe it's time to ponder about it, think it through, and draw your own conclusions.

There is another meaning to this rune. That being new beginnings since it's the first letter of the alphabet in all futhark. Perhaps it is time to start a new era for yourself or for others. Maybe it's a new era in your surrounding communities. Or perhaps it's the new era for this world we live in. From the time of writing this, this part seems possible. The old gods die off, creating the new gods for the new age. Maybe it tells you that you don't have to hold on to a dying age and just let go, maybe the new beggining will not be so bad. It could also mean birth of a child, a new child literally. Or perhaps the death of an old man.
